Frequently Asked Questions

The following are commonly asked questions to help you decide if you want to sell your goods at Heanor Craft Centre. If you need directions or inquiring about jobs click links.

I'm just a novice at selling - does that matter?

No - Everyone is new at something and we have experienced staff to help price items.

Can I sell anything I like?

No. It must be hand made by yourself or a close relative. What you make is up to you. If you look around the centre you will see what sells. If your craft is not there you may have a monopoly opportunity!

How long do I have to stay?

We ask you to stay for 12 months. This will give you an opportunity to see the full sale cycle in a year.

What do I have to do at the centre?

Nothing. Your rent pays for everything - staffing, rates, lighting, heating etc. All you do is stock your stand. This can give you more time to work.

How do I get paid?

You write your agreed name on every ticket, with price and possible description. When an item sells your sale is written in your  sales book which is added up and paid out when you request. (Except Lunch times)

How much money will I make?

We don't know. Some Antique dealers turnover £20,000 - £30,000 a year and some a few hundred, dependant on space rented and stock value. Craft dealers are very much small scale operations with much lower rent cost.

Should I rent lots of space straight away?

No - besides there are very few units to let, you need to find your 'market' and see what sales you have. You should ideally start by trying to make 3 or 4 times your rent before branching out.

Is my stock insured?

No. You can get private insurance for fire and theft, but nobody will insure for shoplifting. We have a very good surveillance system (20 cameras) and have a very low theft rate. If it's valuable lock it away!

How much is it really going to cost me to sell at Heanor?

It depends where you want to be. The main floor craft shelving is £35 and the units are £50 a month The third floor is cheaper about £25 to £35. We ask you to pay by direct debit and a commission on sales of  5% covers all costs.
